Our favorite Disney characters are getting a fashion makeover from the team at Barneys this upcoming festive season. You will see Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck and Goofy in Lanvin, Dolce & Gabbana and Balmain respectively when Barney’s holiday campaign called “Electric Holiday” rolled out to the public on 14 November.

It sounds like a super fun project, whereby Barneys Madison Avenue flagship store will have a three-dimensional electric light show and a moving art short film played on the windows displays, showcasing Disney characters that have been turned into runway supermodels. Fashion regulars will appear as Disney-inspired too! To top it off, the original score of the short film is done by Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino.

Don’t be surprised if you see Minnie Mouse with different body image. Because according to Barneys creative director, Dennis Freedman, “The standard Minnie Mouse will not look so good in a Lanvin dress. There was a real moment of silence, because these characters don’t change. I said, ‘If we’re going to make this work, we have to have a 5-foot-11 Minnie,’ and they agreed. When you see Goofy, Minnie and Mickey, they are runway models.” Thus, as a result, they will look significantly slender.

The theme “Electric Holiday” is inspired by Disnye’s famous electrical parade, lighting installations you see in the city of New York during the holiday season, as well as the flashbulbs and lights you see on fashion runways. As for the short film itself, you will the Paris fashion shows from the eyes of Minnie Mouse as she is dreaming on it, with appearances from Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Daisy Duck, Cruella de Vil, Princess Tiana and Snow White, of course all dressed up very fashionably.

The designers lineup includes: Mickey is dressed by Nicolas Ghesquière for Balenciaga, Minnie by Alber Elbaz for Lanvin, Goofy by Olivier Rousteing for Balmain, Daisy by Dolce & Gabbana, Cruella by Rick Owens, Princess Tiana by Proenza Schouler and Snow White by Peter Copping for Nina Ricci.

There are also going to be limited collection from the holiday items sold at Chelsea Passage, select Barneys stores and barneys.com. This will include the much anticipated collectible Vinylmation figures designed by Paul Smith and Diane von Furstenberg, and Mickey Mouse ears from Rag & Bone and L’Wren Scott.
